A 'good turnout' is expected for an inaugural tractor weekend on Sunday despite wet weather forcing organisers having to cancel all events on Saturday.
Organisers of the tractor weekend at Hanbury this weekend have been forced to cancel events on Saturday because of heavy weather but they are expecting a good turnout on Sunday, helping to raise funds for a number of good causes.
The Tractor Weekend is being run to raise funds for the 78th Hanbury Countryside Show on Saturday, July 5), the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, the RABI and The Matt Gallagher Foundation (in memory of long-standing supporter and friend of the Show, Nicki Sharp).
A spokesperson for the Hanbury Countryside Show Society: "We are very sad to announce that we have taken the decision to cancel the first day (Saturday) of our inaugural, fund-raising Tractor Weekend, planned for Saturday and Sunday (October 12 and 13).
"Poor weather in the lead up to the event - not helped by heavy rainfall in the early hours of today, means that ground conditions at the Showground on Hollowfields Road are now less than ideal, and cannot sustain the repetitive movements of a traditional tractor pull competition, without causing considerable damage to the site. It also means that we would not be able to deliver the spectator entertainment we had planned.

"We are very sorry to disappoint all those looking forward to the Tractor Pull, but we must preserve the ground for the Society's main charitable event, The Hanbury Countryside Show, as best we can, to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for the thousands of visitors who attend in the summer.
"On a more positive note, we are able to go ahead with the Tractor Run on Sunday (October 13), which will leave from a smaller and drier area of the Showground at Park Hall Farm, as planned. Please join us on Sunday - we'd love to see you. Participants can enter in advance or on the day. There's free entry for spectators, and breakfasts are on sale. We look forward to seeing you all!"
