THE MOST wonderful time of the year is right around the corner with details announced for this year's Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre.

The festive fayre is set to take place between Thursday and Sunday, November 28 and December 1 in Worcester City Centre.

This year's event will feature almost 200 stalls across the city centre, selling arts and crafts and locally produced Christmas gifts.

There will also be plenty of street food to try, with much of it being made by Worcestershire-based vendors.

When will it be here?

The fayre will open at midday on Thursday, November 28, and will remain open until 9pm.

The hour-long official opening ceremony will take place from 4.45pm, beginning with a community Carol service at Worcester Cathedral followed by the traditional procession to the Cornmarket.

The fayre will then be officially declared open by the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Mel Allcott.

The following day will see the fayre open between 11am and 9pm, while on Saturday the fun will take place between 10am and 8pm.

And the final day will see the fayre open at 11am and close at the earlier time of 5pm.

What is there to do?

Guests will be able to look out for Victorian characters, entertainers on stilts and buskers throughout the city centre.

Make your way down the Shambles and look for Gin Lane, a precarious alleyway featuring actors playing Victorian era characters.

Dancefest will be holding a pop-up performance on the high street featuring many community dancers.

Worcester's oldest pub, The Cardinal’s Hat on Friar Street, will host a stage of local live music and entertainment, with a few surprises throughout the fayre.

Acts include Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer with their Victorian Music Hall shows, Jazz Alchemy’s Santa Sax and The Jake Leg Jug Band.

The Cardinal's Hat will also be hosting a pop-up Friar Street beer festival and gin palace throughout the event.

Stilt-walking super sleuths Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson will be out on the Sunday attempting to solve some of Worcester's biggest crimes.

Ebenezer Scrooge will be skulking around Worcester, with fayre-goers challenged to get him to take a photo and wish him a Merry Christmas.

And people will also be able to enjoy a carousel and fun fair.

The Victorian Fayre was first started back in 1992 by traders from New Street and Friar Street.
