A cyber security specialist has been recognised for her work at a national awards ceremony.

Lisa Ventura MBE, who is based in Worcester, was given a "highly commended" award in the Cyber Security Citizen of the Year category at the National Cyber Security Awards 2024.

The event took place on Monday, September 23, at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith.

The awards, which were launched in 2019, are supported and endorsed by the UK Government and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

It recognises the achievements of professionals, businesses, and educators in the field of cyber security.

Ms Ventura, who is the founder of Cyber Security Unity, was commended by the judges for her motivation and nationally recognised work in the sector.

She said: "To be given a 'highly commended' award in the Cyber Security Citizen of the Year category at this year’s National Cyber Security Awards was a huge honour.

"I entered the cyber security industry when it was in its infancy in 2009 and over the years, I’ve seen the industry grow and develop as many look to develop new ways to keep us safe from ever-evolving cyber-attacks.

"I work tirelessly to raise as much awareness as possible as to the importance of cyber security, not just in business but in all areas of life.

"Cyber security really is everyone’s responsibility and the more that can be done to help educate people as to the importance of it, the better equipped the UK will be to combat the growing cyber threat."

The event was hosted by BBC security correspondent Gordon Corera, with opening speeches by Dr Mary Haigh, CISO of BAE Systems, and other VIP guests.

Professor Richard Benham, founder of the National Cyber Awards, said: "The winners set an inspiring example for others, highlighting the innovation and resilience needed to protect society from evolving cyber threats.

"Their dedication is essential to building a secure digital future for businesses, governments, and individuals alike."
