A TALENTED young boxer is set to go toe to toe with the best fighters in the world when she shows her mettle once again, this time at a world championship in the USA.

The 17-year-old from Ronkswood, Worcester is due to fight in the 2024 under 19 world boxing championships in Colorado Springs in the United States later this month.

The competition is due to take place between October 25 and November 3 - and her coaches at Worcester Amateur Boxing Club in Vincent Road and her family believe she has what it takes to succeed in the 54kg weight category of the open class elite contest.

Her dad Daniel Wise said he believed she had 'all the tools' at her disposal to succeed in the competition and thanked club coaches and Guy Warner of Warners for sponsoring his daughter, a former pupil at the city's Nunnery Wood High School.

"A lot of this would not be possible if not for her sponsor," said Mr Wise.

She has already amassed an impressive collection of wins and trophies as she continues to develop as a fighter and hone her skills.

Caitlyn is already a three times Midland champion, a three times national champion and a three times international champion, coming out on top in competitions in Sweden, Brandenburg and Ireland. She became British Champion in the Tri Nations on June 9 this year and is also a junior European bronze medallist and was crowned Women's Winter Box Champion for 2023.

"I'm looking forward to the experience, just doing my best and showing everyone what I've got," she said, speaking of her chances in the USA.

She praised the coaches at Worcester Amateur Boxing Club including Shaun Finn and Mick Underwood.

Mr Underwood said: "She is tall and slim with a nice long range but can fight inside too. She is very determined. She has a good chance. She just trains and trains and trains. We're very proud of her."

We reported last December how she added the gold medal to her list of achievements following her bronze medal for Team England at the European Junior Championships in Romania in July, as well as becoming a national champion in 2022.

Wise is showing all the signs of going on to a successful boxing career and the former 'Golden Girl' winner - a prestigious boxing competition - is now chasing glory on the other side of the Atlantic.
