WILDLIFE volunteers have potentially saved a swan's life after removing a fishing hook from its face.
The swan, one of two rescued by volunteers from The Swan Food Project was found in Worcester's Swan Sanctuary.
The group has reminded everyone that fishing is banned between Worcester Cathedral and the railway viaduct.
In a post on Facebook on Wednesday (October 2), a spokesperson for The Swan Food Project said:
"Two swans rescued from fish hooks in four days.
"A reminder to anglers that fishing is banned everywhere between Worcester Cathedral and the railway viaduct.
"It's common sense really in an area with so much wildlife.
"And a plea to anglers to take extra special care when fishing beyond the sanctuary, at Diglis and along Pitchcroft (where the second swan was spotted).
"Hooks and line can cause weeks of suffering and lead to death from entrapment and starvation.
"Please look out for debris left by other anglers, and cut up line before disposing of it.
"In fact, let's all do our bit and gather rubbish before it gets into the river."
