A charity shop was "bursting at the seams" as it celebrated its first birthday.

Remade Worcester, located in Crowngate's Friary Walk, marked its successful first year of trading in the city centre last week.

The shop, which sells high-quality furnishing fabric, leather offcuts, and craft materials, was visited by Worcester Mayor Councillor Mel Alcott during the celebrations.

The mayor has supported the organisation with funding since its launch.

The shop was offered the space by Crowngate manager Michael Lloyd, who is passionate about sustainability.

The materials sold in the shop could have ended up in landfill if not collected by the charity.

Sue Fry, Remade’s founder and chair of trustees, shared plans to expand in their second year.

She said: "We aim to develop new business partnerships so that we can rescue more of their waste materials to sell on for re-use."

Ms Fry also noted the potential for extending their services, saying: "Attracting a wider range of volunteers as our reputation spreads will mean that we can increase our opening hours, make more from sales, and develop our services.

"We want to run more workshops here and in the community."

The shop, which has expanded its trading to a few hours on five days a week from just one day a week in 2023, was a hive of activity with eager crafters of all ages.

One shopper said: "These leather pieces will be perfect for patching up my felt log basket and I will make teddy bears with these pieces of felt.

"I try to use recycled or reclaimed materials wherever possible and I’ve had a great bargain today.

"I could spend hours in a shop like this."

The shop, which advocates for the use of recycled and reclaimed craft materials, will have a stall at the Earthwise Fair in Worcester Cathedral’s cloisters on Saturday (October 5), between 10am and 4pm.
