A TELEVISION menopause doctor investigated by Panorama is appearing in Worcester - with the theatre saying it is happy to host the event.

Dr Louise Newson has been under investigation by BBC Panorama into patient concerns over high-dose hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in her private clinics.

Dr Newson, who is a member of the Government’s Menopause Taskforce and has appeared alongside celebrities including Davina McCall to raise awareness of symptoms, is set to appear at the Swan Theatre on Friday, October 25 for her show Hormones and Menopause- The Great Debate.

As well as the Panorama investigation, health regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has also said it is looking into 'information of concern' relating to Dr Newson’s clinics, known as Newson Health.

The British Menopause Society has also removed Dr Newson from its online menopause specialist register due to concerns that aspects of her practice did not accord with established guidance.

A spokesperson for the Swan Theatre told the Worcester News that as a venue it was happy to support the event to go ahead.

The spokesperson added: "We want to allow the discussion to take place, where we feel our audiences can make up their own minds regarding the topic and information presented to them.

"We always aim to provide a platform that welcomes debate and differing opinions, to offer our audiences a varied and unbiased programme."

Dr Newson said her clinics treat every patient on an individualised basis.

A statement from her practice, Newson Health, added: “This is particularly important in an area of health that is chronically underfunded, undervalued and under-researched.

“Newson Health has addressed all points raised by the CQC and has not been notified of any resulting concerns.

“Newson Health is confident in the quality of care it provides and maintains a CQC Good rating.

"The British Menopause Society is a charity, and not a regulatory body and Dr Newson has previously requested evidence as to why the decision was taken to remove her accreditation over a year ago, despite her completing all required training and exceeding other requirements.

"Unfortunately, she is yet to receive a satisfactory response."
