A MAN has been charged after defacing a pro-Palestine mural in Worcester.
Michael Willmott, 69, of St Clements Close, has been charged with racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage.
The mural champions brave journalists who have put their lives on the line to show the world the reality of life in Gaza, depicting the portraits of reporters Lama Jamous and Noor Harazeen.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "A Worcester man has been charged with racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage following an incident in which a pro-Palestine mural was damaged in May 2024.
"Michael Willmott, 69, of St. Clements Close, Worcester was charged with the offence and is due to appear at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on 10 December 2024."
The artwork appeared in March amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza.
The Worcester News contacted the Worcester Palestine Solidarity Campaign about the mural's vandalism but the group declined to comment.
