A free stop-smoking service has been launched in Worcestershire.

The service, which offers expert advice and free vapes, has been introduced to help people quit smoking for Stoptober yesterday (Tuesday, October 1).

The number of smokers in the county has recently reduced and is now below the national average.

Councillor David Ross, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, said: "Quitting smoking can be a challenging journey, but evidence shows that with the right support, it can be done successfully.

"That is why I am absolutely delighted to introduce this new service, which is available to everyone in Worcestershire, and will be a valuable addition to the support we offer to improve people’s health."

The new service offers a personalised approach to quitting.

This includes an initial consultation with a trained stop-smoking advisor, regular telephone check-ins, and a free vape starter kit.

Four weeks after the quit date, there will be a follow-up to check if you are still on the path to success.

Additional support is available for those who are pregnant or live with a child under three years old.

Information can be found at worcestershire.gov.uk/stopsmoking or by calling 0800 772 0307 or 01905 928 185.

Assistance is also available at any library in Worcestershire.
