Residents and descendants of Dines Green flocked to the first-ever 'Dinesfest' to celebrate 70 years of the Worcester estate.

Organisers estimated that up to 500 people attended the event on Saturday (September 28), taking advantage of the warm September sunshine.

Councillor Robyn Norfolk, who chaired the Dinesfest working party, said she was delighted to see so many people from the community enjoying themselves and staying for the whole afternoon.

The event aimed to be affordable for residents, with free activities such as face painting, a rodeo bull, and other inflatables, thanks to funding from Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Councillor Richard Udall.

There was also a subsidised merry-go-round and bungee trampolines.

The Tudor Way Family Hub and Magic Moments Day Nursery organised more activities, with the help of Rainbows, Brownies, and Girl Guide groups.

Worcester United Dines Green Football Club organised a match for the Harrison Cup, played by two teams of eight to 15-year-olds.

Many younger children enjoyed their first pony ride.

The event also featured a selection of home-baked cakes, hot dogs, burgers, and Bennetts ice cream, all offered at a flat rate of £1.

The refreshments were prepared by a congregation from the church in one of Honeywell Primary School’s halls.

Trainee pastor Peter Oram said: "Dinesfest was a great event to be involved in.

"Manor Park Church thoroughly enjoyed serving our local community and will look to continue to serve where possible in the future."

The school hosted the community event alongside its own open afternoon.

Headteacher Andrew Morley said: "Besides families who had come to visit our open day but stayed around to enjoy Dinesfest, there were families from the estate and newer neighbouring developments who came for Dinesfest but took their chance to meet our staff and find out more about our school."

One Dines Green resident wrote on Facebook: "It was lovely to see painted faces and prizes being walked home around the estate at the end of the afternoon.

"A great job all round, well organised, well supported with volunteers, locals and services.

"Organisers should be very proud."
