A PRIVATE school in Worcester has revealed plans to build a new sports complex on land it has acquired in Worcester.

King's School now owns the land in Battenhall which it said was historically home to multiple community sports groups and the University of Worcester.

The school hopes to build a new sports complex on the site which consists of three fields, an old pavilion and a small parking area.

Dr Alison Oliver, acting head at King's School, said: "This is a momentous occasion for King’s and I couldn’t be more pleased to share this news with our community.

"It’s a privilege to have taken on this site which will continue to be used for developing and growing sport within the city.”

The school hopes the new site will help build stronger connections with Worcester schools and the community.

Although subject to planning permission, the school hopes to build two all-weather astro pitches, netball courts, rugby and football pitches.

"With the new playing fields and future developments, we plan to be able to offer even more opportunities for our pupils to excel, as well as provide additional resources for our local schools and clubs.

"This reaffirms our commitment to nurturing the athletic talents of all our pupils, from grassroots to elite levels."

The news, which was announced on the school's Facebook page, has had a largely positive response.

However, some residents have raised concerns about not being able to use the fields for dog walking.

Paul Sobczyk, Worcester City Council councillor for Battenhall, said: "I have not seen any plans so I'm not up to speed but I think residents have raised concerns about access.

"Though the land now belongs to King's School, residents would still like to enjoy public access like they are used to.
