TRAFFIC near Worcester Cathedral was brought to a standstill after a car crashed into a lamppost. 

The car crash took place on the A44 College Street at around 2pm on Friday, September 27 and police were called to the scene. 

The road was partially blocked, with traffic at gridlock heading past Worcester Cathedral and up towards London Road. 

Eyewitnesses said the car had collided head-on and caused damage to the front of the car. 

The car was removed and the road was cleared again by 3pm. 

However, traffic remained very slow until around 3.30pm before fully opening up. 

No one was injured in the crash and no arrests were made. 

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We were called to College Street in Worcester following a report a car had collided with a lamp post, at around 2pm this afternoon.

"The road was partially blocked before being cleared again at 3pm."
