EMERGENCY services were called to the riverside in the city centre after receiving reports of a "concern for safety".

Police, fire and ambulance personnel attended an incident on the riverside near Pitchcroft, Worcester on Thursday afternoon (September 26) after reports of a person in the water off Severn Terrace.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Following a call at 4.27pm to reports of a patient in the water off Severn Terrace in Worcester, we currently have a paramedic officer at the scene."

West Mercia Police officers were first to the incident. A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to the Sabrina Bridge in Worcester at around 3.50pm for a concern for safety.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene as enquiries are being carried out."

The large emergency services presence included one fire engine and water rescue teams from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS).

HWFRS said it was called to a "rescue from the water" at 4.06pm - bringing water rescue teams and two boats from Worcester and Evesham.

Water rescue teams began removing their boats from the water shortly before 6pm. 

West Mercia Police have been contacted for a further update.
