A MEMORIAL garden has been created to honour the life of a Droitwich boy killed by his mother and her partner.

The garden for Alfie Steele was created on the Copcut Rise Estate, with a flower bed created near to a bench not far from the nine-year-old's former home.

Alfie was murdered at his home in Droitwich while he was in the care of his mother, Carla Scott, and her fiancée, Dirk Howell, of Princip Street, Birmingham.

Last year, Howell was found guilty of murdering the nine-year-old while Alfie's mother was found guilty of manslaughter. Alfie died in Feburary 2021.

Cllr Daniel Birch, who played a role in the garden being installed, said he was truly humbled by how the community has come together to honour the life of Alfie.

The Copcut Rise Residents Association met on Sunday (September 22) to create the garden after they were given a grant from the parish council at Cllr Birch's request.

He added: "This project has been very important to the Residents Association since it started up earlier this year.

"I hope this area provides a place for reflection and I sincerely hope the garden can be enjoyed by all in our community.

"I would especially like to thank Pam and James who have been there to help every step of the way.

"I would also like to thank the Parish Council for their full support."

Some of the plants in the garden were donated by Webbs Garden Centres.

A spokesperson for Webbs added: “Webbs is deeply honoured to contribute to the memorial garden in memory of Alfie Steele.

"By donating plants, we hope to create a living, lasting space of remembrance for a young life taken too soon.

"It is our sincere wish that this garden becomes a place of peace and reflection for the family and the community.”

J. Wyton Landscape Services came down for free to dig up the area for planting, as well as remove all the waste and provide new topsoil.

Alaina Scott, Alfie's grandmother, had previously called Alfie the life and soul of the family.

She added: "Our family has been torn apart- the world doesn't feel right without him."

Howell was jailed for life for murder with a minimum term of 32 years, while Scott was jailed for 27 years, serving at least 17 for the killing.
