AN Italian restaurant's managers have been told they will get 'no compensation' after a power cut which hit nearly 150 homes and businesses.

The power cut affected homes and businesses in Sidbury, including Benedicto's Italian Restaurant in Worcester on Saturday at a time when the business was full of customers.

Caused by a blown fuse, the power cut at 5.48pm affected 147 properties including the popular Italian restaurant in Sidbury.

In a statement, shared on Facebook, a spokesperson for the restaurant offered 'sincerest apologies' to 'valued customers' for the power cut but stressed it was 'beyond our control'.

A spokesperson added:  "Around 7.30pm, just as we were reading the power cut notice and considering closing for the evening, the power was restored, so we decided to continue with our service.

"However, shortly after the food orders started coming in, the power cut out again. This resulted in a complete system failure, affecting our ordering system, tills, and all kitchen appliances, including ovens and stoves, leaving us unable to prepare food, even more confusing was that most of the building power was on and effecting mostly the kitchen.

"We were completely unprepared for this situation. With a full house spread across four rooms, the power cuts coming on and off added to the confusion. Each time the power came back, we hoped to resume service, but unfortunately, it would go out again. At that point, it was too late to close as we had hundreds of guests to serve.

"We extend our deepest apologies to everyone, especially those celebrating special occasions. We always strive to exceed your expectations, but despite our best efforts, last night proved extremely difficult to meet that standard.

"We would also like to thank our team and the guests who understood the situation and supported us through the challenges. This morning, we woke up to a range of feedback from our guests.

"While we appreciate your comments, some of the reviews have been particularly harsh and out of place, given the circumstances. Rest assured, we are working with the National Grid to understand the cause of the issue, which was not only at Benedictos but part of Sidbury was affected."

They have been told there will be 'no compensation' from National Grid because the power cut must last a minimum of 12 hours consecutively for that to apply.

A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: "On the evening of Saturday, September 21, a blown fuse caused a power outage in Worcester affecting 147 properties. The outage was first reported at 5.48pm, with all properties restored by 1.41am on the morning of Sunday, September 22.

"While our team worked to get homes and businesses back online, some customers may have experienced their power going on and off as we located and fixed the fault. We appreciate this uncertainty can be frustrating, and we're sorry for the inconvenience caused on Saturday evening. We’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we worked to reconnect them."
