A MAN has been charged after an incident at Waitrose which saw armed police close Wylds Lane.

Kyle Francis, 26, of Wylds Lane in Worcester, was charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of an air weapon when prohibited to do so for five years.

The charge follows an incident in Waitrose on London Road and Wylds Lane in Worcester on Saturday afternoon (September 21).

Armed police closed Wylds Lane on Saturday, September 21 for more than four hours according to residents.

Neighbours said more than ten police cars including multiple armed police officers and police dogs swooped into the residential street at around 5pm.

Francis will appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, September 23).

One neighbour called Julia said: "They closed the road at around 5pm.

"It started with just two police cars but every couple of minutes more and more arrived. 

"There must have been at least ten in the end.

"It was all very scary, I was watching it all play out from my upstairs window. 

"They knocked on the door and nobody answered so a couple of police officers went into the side garden. 

"They first took an elderly woman out and then quite a lot later a young man. 

"I don't know why it took them so long but there wasn't a lot of shouting, I thought it would have been something more serious."

The road reopened on Sunday morning but one police car remained at the scene.
