ARTISTS from across the globe came to Worcester to show off their creativity whilst brightening up the city.

City residents who were walking around Worcester yesterday (Saturday, September 21) might have noticed more than 20 artists from across the globe painting new murals around the city for The Worcester Paint Festival.

The festival focuses on using street art to "brighten up" the city.

Fourteen new murals were painted across a wider portion of the city this year rather than focussing just on the city centre.

Kate Cox, director of the Worcester Paint Festival said: "We have got artists up and down the city today (Saturday).

"We have got maps for people to follow and watch all the artists make their work.

"Everyone is really passionate about the art because it's important and it brightens up Worcester which improves everyone's mental health.

"They all love engaging with the public and talking about what goes into their work.

"The festival really focuses on street art, we have got local artists but international ones as well."

Though the paint festival is only on for one day, maps will be available from the tourist information centre year-round for people to follow. More information is available at www.worcesterpaintfestival.co.uk

Mel Saggs, who also goes by 7th Pencil, painted the new mural at Crowngate Shopping Centre,

She said: "It's been great to get involved with the paint festival.

"Loads of people have stopped by and asked about my work and I love to chat with them.

"It's great to do something new because my style has changed and I wanted to do something better.

"My work is about the internal mental health neurodivergent life and hopefully people will enjoy it when I finish."

The new murals can be found across the city including in Cripplegate Park, Dines Green, Landsdowne Park and near Sixways Stadium.

Dario Santos who was painting in Cripplegate Park and had never visited Worcester before, said: " I painted a whale travelling through space because I like whales.

"Everyone I've talked with has said how fun and nice it looks and it's something that makes people smile which is great.

"It's taken me over 15 hours to make but it's definitely worth it, I'm almost done and can't wait to walk around the city and look at what other artists have made."
