A "huge community fete and fun day" has received a boost from one of the area's biggest housing partners.

Dinesfest, which is celebrating Worcester estate Dines Green's 70th anniversary, has received financial support from Platform Housing Group, which is also based in the city.

Worcester city councillor Robyn Norfolk, who represents Dines Green and Grove Farm, and chairs the voluntary community group responsible for organising the festival, said: "This grant from Platform Housing’s Community Chest will help to ensure that no local resident need miss out on sharing this celebration.

"The SEN-Den will be perfect for families and carers of any children who might need a quieter space during their visit to escape the sensory overload of a busy event."

The housing association's grant will also fund a wheelchair-accessible taxi for the event, which can be pre-booked to ensure that anyone unable to walk or use buses to reach the community fun day can still join in.

Any resident of the estate, or within a mile of the festival, who cannot walk or use a bus to get there and would like to use this service, is asked to book by Wednesday, September 25, by calling 07561 858809.

Community engagement officer for Platform, Paul Edwards, said: "Platform Housing Group has hundreds of customers around Dines Green and on new housing developments neighbouring the estate.

"We have supported many community-led events here in the past and it’s great that our Community Chest panel approved this application from Dinesfest.

"I am looking forward to bringing along a children’s archery activity and to seeing many of our longer-term customers from the area as well as meeting many newer arrivals."

The event will take place at Honeywell Primary School on Saturday, September 28, between 1pm and 4.30pm.

The school is inviting all visitors, but particularly families and carers of next year's school starters, to visit classrooms and meet teachers at their own open afternoon between 1pm and 3pm.

A Dinesfest spokesperson said: "This is an inclusive but local community event, so we have very limited parking and are asking visitors to walk, use the buses or cycle to the event if they are able.

"Those who cannot, can pre-book this special door-to-door taxi service."
