A BONFIRE threatened to rage out of control as it spread towards fields before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze.

A fire crew from Evesham Fire Station attended the 'stubble fire' in Orchard Place, Harvington, near Evesham at 6.08pm last night.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "An out of control bonfire was spreading towards a field and the fire was extinguished using an extended hosereel jet and a beater.

"There were no casualties and no other emergency services were required. The incident was marked as pending closure at 7.22pm."
