500 white hearts were on display at an end of a summer appeal by a children's hospice.

The metal sculptures were placed at Arley Arboretum, near Bewdley, in the Garden of Everlasting Love to raise funds for the Worcester-based Acorns Children's Hospice, which provides care for seriously ill babies and children.

Supporters dedicated the keepsakes in memory of loved ones, as part of the charity's Hannah's Hearts Appeal, and were invited to visit the garden for reflection and contemplation.

Christina White, head of public fundraising at Acorns, said: "This has been an incredibly moving display of heart sculptures to pay tribute to hundreds of much-missed loved ones in a powerful way, while helping to raise money for children and families facing unimaginable struggles."

The appeal was inspired by Hannah Debney, a teenager who spent her final days at Acorns after a battle with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

She died in July 2023.

Hannah's mum, Christine, from Stourbridge, officially opened the garden during a private ceremony, along with Acorns CEO Trevor Johnson.

Mrs Debney said: "Acorns has been amazing.

"They were there, not just for Hannah, but for us as a whole family.

"Hannah would be really proud to know there are so many families getting the help they need because we shared her story and this appeal has helped keep her memory alive."

Ms White added: "There is still time to own one of these precious hearts and each dedication made will enable us to continue our vital care.

"This appeal has created a lasting legacy for Hannah, not only by transforming a symbol which meant so much to her and her family into a precious keepsake for all our supporters, but it will help us to continue our vital care for children and families."

The hospice provides specialist palliative care for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and support for their families.

In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 750 children across the region, and supported almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
