A community festival is set to take over a primary school to mark the 70th anniversary of a Worcester estate.

Dinesfest will take place at Honeywell Primary School, with its whole outdoor space and two assembly halls set to be in use.

The festival will celebrate 70 years of Dines Green and aims to bring residents of all ages and backgrounds together.

Worcester City Council has given a community grant for Dinesfest, and Worcestershire County Councillor, Richard Udall, is also match-funding this from his divisional funds.

Cllr Udall said: "Dines Green has grown from a few houses built on farmland and market gardens in the fifties to the busy estate that it is now.

"Some families have been here from the start and are in their third or fourth generation here now, so I’m looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and old friends at Dinesfest."

Free face painting, inflatables, pony rides, trade stands, food and drink, football, bike stunts, and a talent show will all be on offer at the event.

It will also be the school’s open afternoon between 1pm and 3pm, when families can visit classrooms and meet the teachers.

Platform Housing is supporting the event by sponsoring the SEN-Den and an accessible shuttle taxi service which aims to help people in the area who might otherwise not get there.

A Dinesfest spokesperson said: "This is an inclusive but local community event, so we have very limited parking and are asking visitors to walk, use the buses or cycle to the event if they are able.

"Those who cannot, should call 07561 858809 before September 25 to book our special taxi service."

The event is set to take place on Saturday, September 28 from 1pm until 4.30pm.
