Worcester News readers have been giving their thoughts on the city's first pump track, which is set to start construction later this month.

Commenting on the Worcester News Facebook page, some expressed enthusiasm and excitement, while others offered suggestions for the project and concerns about potential antisocial behaviour.

The project, which is set to cost around £60,000, has received approval after a Worcester City Council meeting and a consultation survey amongst city residents.

The site for the new track is at Battenhall Park.

Reader Mike Stockton commented: "No clue what a pump track is but I'd have a go."

Parent Georgina Howden, a parent, was excited about the upcoming track.

She said: "Fantastic news.

"Looking forward to taking my kids there."

David Faulkner suggested further locations for pump tracks, which are essentially circuit tracks for cyclists with ‘pumps’ (rollers to pedal over), whether it be bikes, scooters or skateboards.

He said: "Could do with one of these on Brickfields Park just behind the old bowling green."

Richard Cable said: "Nice, they're loads of fun, my only recommendation is make it bigger as for the cost they are not that much money, the one in Craven Arms is always busy."

JZ Priest addressed the issue of potential antisocial behaviour by sharing her own personal experience, commenting: "Antisocial behaviour?

"The only antisocial behaviour I've seen displayed at pump tracks (and we go to a few) has actually been from a middle-aged woman who decided to sit on the track asphalt with her iPad, to purposely slow people down.

"Even after explaining the dangers of this she persisted.

"Other than this I've never seen the antisocial behaviour people are concerned about here."

She added: "Not everyone is a yob, and it’s not just youngsters that use them either.

"Look forward to checking this out."
