A SHOCKED student almost could not believe what was happening as her partner dropped to his knee to propose at her graduation.
It was an extra special graduation day at the University of Worcester after Erin Boddice left campus with a degree and an engagement ring.
Miss Boddice's partner of three years, Jacob Thomas, had decided to surprise her on the big day and drop to one knee moments before her ceremony.
The Primary Initial Teacher Education student was at the university to receive her degree yesterday (Thursday).
“We were in the garden of the cathedral, overlooking the river, having family photos on the steps just by the cathedral door,” said Miss Boddice.
“Then Jacob got down on one knee and asked the question.
"I couldn’t believe it - I was very happy.”
Mr Thomas, who had graduated two years ago and now works in the city, had carefully planned the moment to ensure they could get the perfect engagement photo.
He said: “I had planned it so Erin’s dad could be on hand to take photos.
"I half planned the moment, but the other half was luck.”
The pair then celebrated the engagement that evening.
Miss Boddice, who is currently a teacher, said she looks forward to showing the children she teaches her new ring and the pictures from the day.
She added: “I can’t wait to show the children the photos and the ring when I get back to the school in the morning.”
Graduation ceremonies for the University of Worcester's Class of 2024 to place between September 9 and 13.
Hundreds of students had made their way to Worcester Cathedral to celebrate the hard work and new degrees.
They then went to Severn Campus for a celebratory drinks reception at the University Arena.
