A FORMER funeral directors is being turned into an after-school study centre.
The shop in High Street, Pershore was home to Jackson Family Funeral Directors but has been empty for over six months.
A change-of-use planning application has now been submitted to Wychavon District Council by Three Talents Tuition, which is turning the premises into an extra-curricular tuition centre.
The company offers educational support to children aged eight to 16 in English and maths, including for SATs and GCSEs.
“The centre will be run by one full-time centre manager who oversees the smooth-running of the centre,” it says in a planning statement.
“In addition to this will be approximately five part-time tutors and support staff. There is always one tutor for each four pupils.
“There will normally be about one-three classes at a time with a maximum number of 12 pupils/three tutors at any one time.
“Students work through specially planned computer-based tasks which are selected for each student.”

The centre would use the shop’s existing front entrance, which would lead to a small reception area and the main tuition area beyond that.
Three Talents, which already runs a centre in Malvern, would open in Pershore from 3.30pm to 7.30pm on weekdays and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays.
It could also offer additional sessions during the school day to students who are educated at home or who need “alternative provision”.
Centre manager Daniel Hamblin said: “We are incredibly excited to open a new tuition centre in the heart of Pershore.
“Pershore is a fantastic town with a strong sense of community, which aligns perfectly with our ethos as a family-run business.
“Our success at the Malvern centre has allowed us to expand and establish a new location on Pershore High Street.
“In recent weeks, our tailored approach to tuition has led to students achieving excellent results in their SATs, Functional Skills, and GCSE exams - a winning formula we are eager to bring to Pershore.”
