AN AMERICAN bulldog with a heart of gold is looking for a new home in Worcestershire after being rescued.
Six-year-old Charlie was brought to Worcester and mid-Worcestershire RSPCA at the Holdings Rescue and Rehoming Centre, Broomhall, after experiencing a difficult start to life as an isolated dog.
A spokesperson for RSPCA Worcester said: "When he arrived in our care, he was emaciated, filthy and a real sad, sorry fellow.
He had lived a life stuck indoors, never being socialised with dogs or people, and punished for toileting inside even though he had no alternative."
After being brought to the RSPCA, Charlie has been learning about what life as a dog is really like.
The spokesperson said: "He instantly bonded with our team and showed himself to be a real softy who just wants love, cuddles and to play like a puppy.
"He is six years old, but it is evident that he has never enjoyed a proper puppyhood, so his time at The Holdings has enabled him to decompress and learn how fun it is to be a dog.
"He enjoys his food, loves toys and he adores human company and contact with those he knows and trusts."

Given his past, Charlie is still understandably wary of new people and dogs.
However, a behaviourist is currently helping Charlie overcome these challenges and make him much more comfortable in public.
Charlie is looking for an adult-only home with a large garden and no other pets, with owners who are committed to helping him in his ongoing training and socialisation.
RSPCA Worcester will help to provide training for Charlie and may be able to help in covering the costs of securing your garden to make it safe for him, but are only looking for potential homes within one hour of Worcester
Anyone interested in adopting Charlie can apply to by contacting Geraldine on 01886 822083, or by completing the application form on the RSPCA website.
