People from the Midlands have been called to sign up for a charity bike ride to raise funds for a leading UK charity.

A virtual challenge, 'Pedal for Progress' has been launched to encourage people to get on their bikes throughout October and cover 250 miles for Diabetes UK, a charity supporting those affected by the disease.

The mile-marker event commences on Tuesday, October 1 and will finish on Thursday, October 31.

The challenge is for all levels of cyclists, and cyclists will be able to complete the journey at any time and pace.

Also, there is no registration fee and no minimum sponsorship amount required.

Peter Shorrick, the charity's head of region of the Midlands and East said: "Our brand-new cycling challenge is a great way to become stronger and fitter, and to pedal for progress for everyone living with or affected by diabetes.

"The money you raise will help support our life-changing work by funding new research for new treatments, and providing vital support through our helpline."

Riders can choose whether to cover the 250 miles indoors on an exercise bike or outdoors in the fresh air.
