Some furry friends paid a visit to a Worcester care home for an afternoon of animal therapy.

Miniature ponies Lollipop and Tinkerbelle were welcomed into Care UK’s Perry Manor by residents.

The pair were introduced by Lollipop Pony Parties as part of a therapeutic session.

The residents of the care home had the opportunity to pet, cuddle and walk the ponies, as well as learn about their care.

A special tour was organised, allowing the ponies to visit residents' rooms and give everyone a chance to interact with them.

Margaret Tyler, a resident at the home, said: "It was a wonderful experience – who knew ponies could go inside?

"It reminded me of the farm we used to stay on, in Wales during the summer holidays with my mum and dad."

Katherine Matthews, home manager at the care home, said: "We had a lovely afternoon with our special guests, Lollipop and Tinkerbelle – they certainly caused a stir when they trotted into the home.

"Animal therapy is a big part of life here at Perry Manor, as we know just how beneficial it can be for older people, especially those living with dementia.

"Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and create a positive, relaxing atmosphere."

She added: "Thank you to Lollipop Pony Parties for bringing Lollipop and Tinkerbelle into the home.

"They were the perfect visitors for Perry Manor, and we can’t wait for our next visit."

Perry Manor, which has been graded as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), offers full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, along with short-term respite care.
