A WOMAN was excited to spot the stars of popular television show Gavin and Stacey filming scenes on the beach in Wales.

Jessica Sedgley, from Worcester, travelled to Barry Island to see the cast and spotted the show's writer and star James Corden taking selfies with fans on the beach.

After hearing the cast was filming the last episode at the seaside town this week, she headed down to try to get a glimpse of the cast.

She said: "Me and my friend went because we had heard that they were filming.

"The whole experience was a great buzz as I have been a fan of the show for years.

"It's just a shame that I wasn't able to takes any selfies with them.

"It was a really exciting atmosphere when they were filming there must have been thousands of fans, unfortunately though we were not at the front of the queue.

"We saw James Corden on Tuesday (September 3) and Stacey yesterday as we had to go to different areas but it was worth it just to get a glimpse."

The scenes filmed on Barry Island are expected to be used in the 2024 Christmas special which will be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day.

Miss Sedgley said: "I just love the show, just how funny it is.

"I'm a big fan of Stacey and everyone loves James Corden.

"They were filming on Trinity Street and at Marco's café.

"Unfortunately I wasn't able to speak to them but if I had, I would have asked for a selfie, said it was nice to meet them and called them amazing.

"At one point we screamed at Stacey and she waved at us, it's great to know that she knew we were there.

"The last episode is coming out on Christmas day and I was looking forward to it but now I'm more excited as when we watch it we can say we were there."

The film crew could be seen in orange hi-vis jackets with "Oh my Christ, they're filming" on the back.

The hit television series aired for three series between 2007 and 2010 and made a comeback in 2019 for a one-off festive episode which ended on a cliff-hanger when Jones’s character Nessa proposed to Smithy.

In the sitcom, Mathew Horne and Page play lovers Gavin and Stacey, Larry Lamb is Gavin’s father Mick, Melanie Walters portrays Stacey’s widowed mother Gwen, and Rob Brydon plays her Uncle Bryn.
