A RARE 50p coin minted to celebrate 150 years since the birth of author Beatrix Potter has sold for seven times its face value.

Featuring classic Beatrix Potter character Jemima Puddle Duck on one side, the 50p coin was listed on eBay by a seller from Pershore in August.

After two bids, it ultimately sold for £6.50 plus postage and packaging totalling £2.70.

In their listing, the eBay seller describes the Jemima Puddle Duck 50p coin as in "superb condition".

The Royal Mint released the coin into circulation in 2016 having minted just 2.1 million of them in total.

Including Jemima Puddle Duck, the Royal Mint struck a total of 15 different 50p coins to celebrate Beatrix Potter and her collection of beloved characters.

These included Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, and Squirrel Nutkin all minted in 2016.

A 50p coin featuring Tom Kitten was released by the Royal Mint in 2017, whilst coins featuring Mrs Tittlemouse and Flopsy Bunny were circulated in 2018.

In 2016, Royal Mint also developed Jemima Puddle Duck 50p coins designated as 'Brilliant Uncirculated' which means they have been struck to a superior standard compared to those coins that went into circulation.
