AN empty office building could be turned into flats if plans put before the council are given the go-ahead.

A scheme to convert Merrivale House in Deansway into 11 flats has been submitted to Worcester City Council.

In planning documents, the developer says: “The surrounding area has varying use classes with residential, commercial, and higher education establishments in the immediate vicinity.

“Hence, a residential building will not feel out of place in this location.

“The reuse of an existing building for a residential purpose would ensure longevity and sustainability in the area, providing higher footfall through commercial areas, and eyes on the street contributing to the feeling of safety.”

The building sits on the corner of Malthouse Place, which leads to a delivery entrance for Crowngate Shopping Centre.

But the developer says “the actual deliveries are processed more than 50 metres away from this exit, posing no risk of disturbance to the residence”.
