A lido in Worcestershire has been named among the best in Britain in a list by the Daily Mail.

The newspaper discussed the history of the lido before introducing its favourites: “We need to thank the Germans for the graceful art deco, alfresco pools located around Britain, both in our cities and on the coast.

“The 'volksparks' of Germany, which then, as now, were dedicated to rehabilitation and health, were the inspiration for the lido which, fused with the English predilection for hedonism and ice cream, created a building splurge, peaking in the 1930s when there were more than 300 outdoor pools across the UK.

“Air travel and municipal funding cuts took their toll after the war and, by the early 21st century, barely two dozen survived.

“Yet a lido revival is well under way with many long-derelict sites being restored to their former glory. Here are our top picks from across the UK...”

From Penzance to Pontypridd, the UK still has a few lidos to offer and one in Worcestershire made the list.

Worcestershire lido among best in Britain

Droitwich Spa Lido was included in the list by the Daily Mail and it’s a salty one.

To book a swim, it costs from ÂŁ8.80 for adults and ÂŁ6.80 for children. Bookings can be made via the Rivers Fitness website.

The newspaper said: “One of the few saltwater inland lidos, Droitwich Spa Lido in Worcestershire is almost as salty as the Dead Sea. The art deco-era pavilion has seen better days, but this remains a magnificent lido with water cannons, fountains and a wet play area.”

For those visiting, it recommends an afternoon hike in the Malvern Hills after swimming and you can even enjoy a bite to eat.

The café at the lido offers everything from beef chilli and toasties to cakes and stacked breakfast sandwiches.

One visitor said: “Visited twice over the summer holidays with our 6 year old grandson. He loved it. Great organisation so they get you in promptly at the start of the session.

“Take your own seat and grab a place on the sunny side of the pool. Go changed so you can get straight in. Changing rooms do get busy towards the end of the session. Highly recommend”.

Another shared their experience: “Wonderful first trip! Well organised, clean and fun. Really impressed will visit again soon. Not too crowded despite being at capacity.

“We had a picnic bench to put our belongings on. Changing rooms were good, a little busy at the end of the session but as expected.”
