A BUISNESS that preyed on vulnerable pensioners has been shut down.

DT Care Ltd, registered to Chalverton Court in Droitwich, was shut down after defrauding vulnerable adults by falsely claiming their computer had a security issue.

The company appeared alongside Amolin Solution Limited in East Sussex at the High Court in Manchester on Friday, August 30.

The Insolvency Service said they had conned elderly people after cold-calling by phone and claimed to want to fix an issue with the victim's computer.

The victims, who were in their 70s and 80s, believed they were receiving genuine calls from well-known IT companies such as Microsoft.

Tricksters would then gain remote access to the devices and take payments for services never provided.

Pensioners were then often left out of pocket by £400 for the “service” they provided and usually attempted to take further payments from the victim weeks or even months later.

David Usher, chief investigator at the Insolvency Service, said: "DT Care and Amolin Solution were both used as a vehicle to defraud pensioners.

"Their tactics were thoroughly dishonest and designed to be aggressive and intimidating.

"We take our responsibilities in protecting the public from financial harm very seriously, which is why we applied for provisional liquidators to be appointed earlier this summer, to prevent the two companies from further objectionable trading until our winding-up petitions were heard.

"The two winding-up orders secured should send a strong signal to the business community that we will use all the powers at our disposal to shut you down if you prey on some of the most vulnerable people in society."

Insolvency Service investigators had spoken to a number of pensioners who were scammed by DT Care.

All the victims repeated the same cold-calling tactics used by both companies to gain remote access to the computer.

The callers often said they were from Microsoft Windows and claimed their computer needed urgent repairs.

Others told the Insolvency Service that the callers had said their computer was hacked, their identity had been stolen, or they could fix their locked machine.

The Official Receiver has been appointed as liquidator of DT Care and Amolin Solution.
