DISTRESSED residents are demanding action after a fourth deliberate fire in eight months at a city park.
There are fears a child could be burned as people believe the fires on Turners Close play park in Warndon have been caused by a group of youths with the latest fire causing "complete devastation".
They are calling for CCTV and have been working with city councillor Jill Desayrah, whose ward is Warndon and Elbury Park Ward, for the last year and a half despite being told they are too expensive.
Miriam, a resident of Turners Close who did not wish to give her last name for fear of reprisals, said: "It was massive and caused devastation to the park where wildlife used to live, hedgehogs, rabbits and birds.
"I feel there's probably nothing left to burn down now but I'm glad there were no kids trapped back there that got burnt to death, unfortunately perhaps the wildlife got burnt to death.
"I am distressed and I don't know what we, the residents of Turners Close, are supposed to do.
"We've been going through all this for over a year and a half with one thing or the other, but this is the worst blaze ever, the worst one ever.
"Last night was hellish."
Three previous fires have been reported in the park since May - on May 16, June 26 and July 29.
Worcester City Council councillor, Jill Desayrah, said: "I am saddened to hear that there has been another fire in Turners Close Park as there does seem to be a regular presence of antisocial behaviour around there.
"The park is on the regular route of the Warndon SNT however it's a question of them being there at the right time to be effective.
"Hopefully this behaviour dies down, the idea of a security camera seems to be getting more and more traction from residents, however resources for more cameras are tight.
"I'm happy to look into this and happy to raise concerns from residents."
One fire crew attended the fire which took place last night at around 10pm.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: One crew from Worcester Fire Station was called at 10.10pm on September 3 to a fire in the open in Turner Close, Worcester.
"A tree and undergrowth were well alight and extinguished using two hosereel jets.
"The area was dampened down and checked using a thermal imaging camera. There were no casualties and no other emergency services were required."
