An investment management firm has thrown its support behind the upcoming auction of the penguins taking part in the Waddle of Worcester.

Hawksmoor Investment Management is backing the auction, slated for Thursday, October 24, with the aim of raising funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

The auction is the finale of the city's summer art event, involving 41 penguin sculptures.

Adam Martyn-Smith, senior investment manager for the company, based in Worcester, said: "Hawksmoor is delighted to be supporting St Richard’s with this important fundraising event at a time when the hospice needs funding more than ever.

"As a firm we share many of the same values and understand the importance of integrity, trust and offering a personal service which is unique to each individual.

"It therefore seemed a natural fit to support a public event which strikes a chord with so many people across the county."

The auction will take place at DRPG in Hartlebury, led by Philip Serrell, TV auctioneer recognised from shows such as Bargain Hunt and Flog It!. All the large penguins and one special 'Ice-Ickle' chick are set to be auctioned, while the remaining 40 chicks will be returned to the schools and groups which decorated them.

Each sculpture is expected to start bidding from £3,000, with all proceeds going to support the hospice.

Sara Matthews, business development manager for the hospice, said: "We’re thrilled to have the support of Hawksmoor and we look forward to enjoying the auction night with the team, with bidders able to join us in person or from the comfort of their own sofas via a livestream.

"In challenging times for many UK hospices, we hope to see some competitive bidding from prospective buyers, helping us to continue to be there for patients and their loved ones when they need us."

The Waddle of Worcester has been backed by several partners, including Crowngate, DRPG, Worcester City Council, Worcestershire Ambassadors, Worcester BID, the Worcester News, and BBC Hereford & Worcester.
