A Worcester retirement village was visited by the captain of a nearby croquet club for a hands-on session with residents.

On Thursday (August 29) Mount Battenhall Retirement Village invited John Guy, the captain of Broadwas Croquet Club, to impart his knowledge during an afternoon of croquet.

Mount Battenhall often organises events for its homeowners to enjoy.

The retirement village is based within a Grade II* Italianate Mansion on Battenhall Avenue.

Current and potential future homeowners were invited to enjoy an afternoon of croquet, under the guidance of Mr Guy who is also a member of the u3a learning group, which meets every month at the village.

Mr Guy, whose club includes 70 playing members, said: "I was really pleased to be invited here today to help show people how to play croquet.

"Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and I hope they continue to play regularly."

The guests at the event had treats of strawberries, cream and summer fruit punch prepared by the Spriggs’ restaurant team, and prosecco was served on the terraces of the show apartments overlooking the village's grounds.

Alan Aitchison, a homeowner at Mount Battenhall, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon as it was something different and it was a lovely day.

"I had played croquet 30 years ago with my children in the garden, but I’d never played it properly.

"John, the croquet coach was very good and we all had a bit of a laugh."
