An insurance broker in Worcester has reopened following important repair works to its historic building.

Howden Worcester, on the corner of Foregate Street and Sansome Street, closed its doors temporarily to undergo essential maintenance on the 'Clock and Barometer House'.

For over a century, the building has served various purposes, including an estate agent, milk bar, gentleman's outfitters, and a watchmaker's shop.

Howden, formerly known as A-Plan, has resided there since the 1980s.

The firm recently won the prestigious 'Insurance Broker of the Decade' award.

Employees worked remotely while the repair works were underway.

Branch manager James Parker said: "We’re delighted to be back open from Tuesday, August 27, after just a couple of weeks of closure to carry out essential maintenance works to our historic branch.

"A huge thank you our builders Mark Harper and structural engineer George Smart for all their hard work.

“As we’re fortunate to work in a space that is an important part of our local history, we take great pride in caring for it.

"And as an insurance broker, we know all too well the importance of maintaining the highest safety and preservation standards at a property."

Mr Parker added: "Our branch team adapted swiftly so that we could continue to serve our clients, providing the same great service they've come to expect from Howden Insurance.

"We'd like to invite the local Worcester community to a free coffee morning next week, to say thank you, and welcome back."

The coffee event, set for Friday (September 6) between 10am and 1pm, will be provided by community business Wayland's Yard.

The company boasts over 100 insurance products across mainstream and niche insurers, from home insurance to horsebox, and commercial cover to kit cars.

The firm has been rated 'excellent' across over 50,000 reviews, and says it has saved clients £375 on home and car insurance.
