It first opened in 1963 after major housing development began in 1958 to create the estate.

It is believed Welsh singing legend Tom Jones performed there with The Squires, originally The Senators, in 1964 before he hit the big time.

Jones later returned to the city to play at Worcester Racecourse, Pitchcroft, two years ago.

The pub permanently closed in 2014 and was boarded up.

The proposed construction of another convenience store in the area proved a controversial topic among residents.

But it got planning permission and in 2016 Midcounties Co-operative announced it would be moving in before opening in July of the same year.

Children from Fairfield Community Primary School were invited to mark the grand opening by cutting the ribbon.

On the pub front, two still remain in Warndon, both in Windermere Drive which houses the Glovers Needle and Prince of Wales.
