A popular fast-food chain looks set to move into the former Frankie and Benny's building in Kidderminster.

According to plans submitted to Wyre Forest District Council, KFC will be opening a new restaurant branch at the Pump House.

The historic building was previously home to Frankie and Benny's before it permanently closed in 2020 with the owners deeming the branch "not financially viable".

A planning application was previously submitted by LCP Retail Limited earlier this year to divide the Pump House into two new units for a tanning salon and a restaurant/takeaway.

Although the businesses moving into the premises were not confirmed at the time, an application outlining the extraction details for the site has now revealed plans for the KFC.

The officer report, which explained the extraction plans, said: "At present, this condition relates to the restaurant/hot food unit which will be occupied by KFC.

"As presently drafted the adjoining unit which is to be a tanning salon cannot operate until the KFC extraction is installed.

"This equipment is not required for the tanning salon and therefore the condition is proposed to be varied so that it just refers to the restaurant/hot food unit only.

"This variation of condition is therefore required to allow the tanning salon to open and not wait until the KFC unit has installed this equipment.

"It is considered that the varying of conditions to allow the tanning salon to open prior to the installation of the extraction would be acceptable and would not result in a detrimental impact on the development."

The extraction plans were approved on Thursday, August 22.

LCP, the national commercial property and investment company which purchased Weavers Wharf last year, said it was unable to provide a comment at this time.

KFC did not respond to a request for comment.
