A KEY community worker is still going strong in the role after celebrating his 70th birthday.
Paul Davies works 20 hours a week at Worcester’s Warndon Community Hub in Shap Drive as the cleaner and caretaker.
He has held a key position with Worcester Community Trust for well over 20 years, according to his line manager Tara Tinton.
The trust wanted to thank Paul for his efforts and mark his milestone birthday.
Tara, who manages the Ronkswood, Warndon and Horizon hubs (Midland Road), said: “Paul is a paid employee with WCT and has been for well over 20 years.
“He is the only cleaner and caretaker in the Warndon hub so he cleans the whole place, does all the fire alarm testing, water testing, emergency lighting, etc.
“Paul knows the building like the back of his hand.
“Customers love him and staff do too.
“He gets a bit grumpy but the banter with him is excellent! Paul puts up chairs and tables as well as refreshments for bookings.
“This can be for up to 90 people so he really is as fit as a fiddle!”
The Warndon hub is the trust’s largest building with a range of modern facilities including three large halls — two with stages, two meeting rooms and two kitchens.
There is also a community café in the newest part which can be hired with any of the other rooms or separately.
The trust is a registered charity that runs six hubs in the city which provide important facilities for community use as well as activities and services that empower people of all ages.
Through its projects, a wide range of services are delivered that make a difference to the daily lives of people, including the socially-isolated, lonely, victims of domestic abuse and the wider community.
