A MAN was arrested for making threats after a main road in Worcester was cordoned off by police.
Police received a report of a man making threats and closed Brickfields Road on Monday night (August 26).
Armed officers were sent to the house and the incident was brought to a close with a man handing himself over to police.
Residents were stopped from returning to their homes while it was ongoing and a cordon was placed across the street with officers standing guard near Acacia Close.
A police aircraft from Nottingham was also circling above the area.
The police have since said the incident was "domestic-related".
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police were called at 7.35pm last night to Brickfields Road in Worcester after a man was making threats.
"A man was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
"There was not believed to be any risk to the wider public however a cordon was put in place to allow the incident to be dealt with safely."
A man was handcuffed by uniformed officers while armed police stood nearby.
The cordon was lifted just after 9.30pm and Brickfields Road was fully re-opened shortly afterwards.
Several police vehicles with their blue lights on were stationary within the cordon.
One eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: "I’ve never seen Brickfields so busy."
Drivers along Brickfields Road were forced to turn round by police, residents whose homes were located inside the cordon were unable to return to their properties until the cordon had been lifted.
More uniformed West Mercia Police officers and armed police personnel arrived as the incident continued to unfold.
The National Police Air Service was also spotted circling above Worcester during the time of the incident, having been dispatched from Nottingham.
The light aircraft, a Vulcanair P.68R Victor, was seen circling the Brickfields area north of Worcester city centre at approximately 9pm onwards.
