A SUPERMARKET is excited to welcome customers back into its petrol station after being closed for months.

Tesco Superstore in Warndon says it will reopen this weekend after closing for a full refurbishment in May.

Since then, the station has remained behind a chain-linked fence while construction work was carried out at the premises on Mill Wood Drive.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We look forward to welcoming customers to our refurbished petrol filling station at our Worcester Warndon Superstore and expect the store to reopen on Sunday, August 25.”

Over the past few months, customers were advised to go to the nearest Tesco petrol station on St Peters Drive.

Photos taken during the construction showed a large hole dug in the centre of the forecourt where the fuel tanks are stored.

The canopy was removed but the shop itself was still there.

A sign had appeared on the chainlink fence warning: "Danger, deep excavation. Keep clear."

The station's sign had suggested that it would reopen on July 26, but this was not the case.

At the time, a spokesperson for Tesco said: “The petrol filling station at our Worcester Warndon Superstore will be temporarily closed for refurbishment from Tuesday, May 7.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to welcoming customers back after the works are completed.”
