A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving while a woman was left in shock after witnessing a crash which closed a major road. 

The crash, which involved two cars, happened on the B4084 at Drakes Broughton, between Worcester and Pershore at around 10am on Friday.

A man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving while a woman, a pedestrian who was nearby when the crash happened, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester suffering from shock.

The road was closed temporarily as officers arrived by chance upon the collision before uniformed officers were called to the scene and the road was closed until about 10.35am.

The incident happened at the junction of the B4084 near the junction with Mill Lane, closed to The Plough and Harrow pub.

At the height of the incident, several police vehicles, marked and unmarked, were at the scene and an ambulance also arrived.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a report of a collision around 10.10am this morning (August 23) on the B4084, Drakes Broughton.

"The collision was between two vehicles and one man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs."

There were 'no major injuries'.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called by police to reports of an RTC at the junction of the B4084 and Mill Lane at 10.11am. We sent one ambulance to the scene.

"On arrival we found one female patient, a pedestrian who was nearby at the time of the collision. She was treated for the effects of shock before being conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.”

The incident caused congestion as drivers were told to turn around and find alternative routes by officers.

An unmarked car was parked across the road, preventing drivers going any further from the Pershore direction.  Once the road was reopened, an officer directed traffic.
