A POPULAR vegan restaurant in Worcester will temporarily close in September - but there are big plans for when it returns.

No Frickin Chicken, in Bromyard Terrace, St Johns, will shut for a month after a busy year which saw the opening of the restaurant and festival season.

The restaurant, which serves plant-based food, will temporarily shut its doors from Monday, September 2.

Hana Hughes, co-founder and head of marketing and communications, opened No Frickin Chicken with Paddy Kelly in April 2020.

She said: "We started with just the trailer that we would take to festivals and private events.

"We've always needed a kitchen to do the preparation work before we go to events, so it made sense to find somewhere with seating as well."

The pair opened the St Johns diner in February after searching for a venue for almost two years.

Shortly after opening, the team were back on the road for the summer, serving food at 11 festivals across the UK including Download, Glastonbury, 2000 Trees and Green Man.

While the diner is closed, the team will be hard at work preparing for reopening with some exciting changes.

"We made silly mistakes when we first opened the trailer and it is the same with the diner," Miss Hughes explained.

"We've learnt what does work and what doesn't work.

"Our quiz nights and other events that aren't directly related to our food have been really popular, so we'd like to do more of those and hold other events like board games nights."

They are also planning to change the menu.

"We had this really big menu when we opened because we know how frustrating it can be as a vegan to go somewhere to eat and there are very few items on the menu for you to choose from.

"Now we've been open for six months, we want to focus on the items on the menu that do work, while having a specials menu that we can rotate through."

Opening times will also be adjusted to better suit visitors, with longer opening hours on Sunday and shorter hours on Wednesday.

The diner will reopen on Thursday, October 3.
