A HORRIFIED mum said her child was traumatised by a shop's Halloween display which featured a woman with her throat slit and zombies.

Hannah De Lisle and her four children were immediately greeted by the horror items when she visited The Range in Hylton Road on Friday (August 16).

The 37-year-old mum, from Shelsley Walsh, said: "The display is right there on your left as you go through the front door so they're there as you go into the store and while you're at the tills when you leave.

"I had to spend some time at the customer services which is right next to the entrance so the children were exposed to it for even longer.

"I told them to try and not look at it but that's easier said than done with little ones."

Despite it being months away from Halloween, the decorations are located in the seasonal section near the front of the store.

"There was a graphic printing of a zombie on a curtain," Mrs De Lisle explained, "and there was a girl in a white dress whose neck had been split open.

"I'm all for things like a Jack-o'-lantern but this is just a bit much.

"We have age ratings on things like films to stop kids seeing that stuff so why have we got these images that celebrate murder and horrible things that children are exposed to at the entrance to a store?"

After seeing the display, one of Mrs De Lisle's children was badly affected by the images: "That night, my little girl came to me and said she couldn't sleep because of the things she had seen in the store.

"The other children also mentioned it but they were not too badly affected by it."

Mrs De Lisle also questioned the timing of the decorations: "It's still the summer holidays and Halloween over two months away, there's no need to have them up just yet."

We contacted The Range for a comment regarding their Halloween decorations display but did not receive a response.
