A Droitwich opticians has invited customers and the community to make food donations ahead of National Foodbank Day.

Staff at Specsavers on St Andrew's Square in Salter’s Shopping Centre are collecting donations for Droitwich Foodbank, with the handover set for the big day on Sunday, September 1.

One in five people in the UK are below the poverty line, so staff are calling on donations of non-perishable food and toiletries to those in need.

Whether you are a regular customer or not, the team at the store is encouraging people to donate an item.

Store director Emma Singh said: "Foodbanks all over the country are experiencing extremely high demand, as many individuals struggle to put food on the table.

"With food being something that people often first neglect when household budgets are stretched, we want to support those who are struggling in our community by inviting members of the public to join us in our efforts to donate as much as we can to Droitwich Foodbank.

"We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming amount of donations that we have already received and it’s been great to see the community come together to support such an important cause."

Visit the team in-store from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5.30pm or call the team directly on 01905 790 660.
