Lanterns were also released into the sky with messages such as 'We Love You' and 'You Will Be Missed' written on them.

Scott Johnson, Jonathan's friend and stepbrother, organised the gathering to help Jonathan's memory live on.

"He would be looking down and seeing everyone.

"It means so much that this many people turned up.

"They have turned up and done donations."

Mr Johnson had set up a GoFundMe fundraising page to cover funeral costs which has already reached over £600.

He said he never expected so many people to reach out.

He added Jonathan had mental health struggles before his death and said more needed to be done to support people.

A body was recovered by police and fire crews the following day.

Èrica Almeida, who attended Nunnery Wood High School with Jonathan, said: "It's the norm to say someone had a beautiful soul when they pass, but Jonathan really did.

"He was a friend to all and didn't have a single bad bone in his body.

"He was known as the class clown and we loved him - he always made us laugh."
