PREPARATIONS are well underway for a free Worcestershire festival which draws thousands to a park in Droitwich each year.

Droitwich Salt Fest is returning to Vines Park this month and will run over five days instead of four.

It aims to celebrate the town's rich salt history while supporting Worcestershire businesses and artists.

The free-to-attend event will get underway on August 28 (Wednesday) with the launch of its first open mic night.

The festivities will continue on Thursday with a comedy night to showcase new artists and those seen on TV.

On Friday (August 30), the main opening of Salt Fest will start at 12.30pm, with live entertainment kickstarting at 6.30pm.

Children will also be able to take part in their very own silent disco with one dedicated to those aged 10 to 12 at 5pm and those aged 13 to 16 at 8pm.

Then on Saturday, 12 different musicians, acts and entertainers will be heading to the Saltfest stage.

Over 118 stalls will also be in Vines Park to provide food, gifts and plants.

Simon Berry, organiser, said: "Over 118 stalls hosting everything to make your day enjoyable Tea Coffee Village, hampers, craft, art, clothes, garden plants, 24 Street Food and bespoke food stalls.

"There will also be more children’s entertainment, including a fun fair, silent disco, virtual reality rides, boat trips, and pony rides.

"A children's time outdoor cinema, Roman village, Salt making demonstrations will also be taking place."

A Foo Fighters tribute will be headlining the stage on the Saturday.

This year, the festival will also be extended to Lido Park with the addition of a Vicarage Village Fete.

The fate will have a wine shop, market stalls, light entertainment, a community choir, a dog show, a vicar quiz, a magic show and an open-air Salvation Army Sunday church service.
