Worcester Cathedral is looking for former Voluntary Choir members to celebrate its 150th anniversary.

The cathedral's choir, known affectionately as the 'Vollers', has been a significant part of Worcester's cultural life for the past 150 years.

Hundreds of children and adult choristers have donned the choir's blue cassocks at Sunday services.

The celebrations mark 150 years since the choir's first service, held on October 11, 1874.

Former choir members are being invited to participate in the upcoming festivities in October.

The jubilee event begins with a special Sung Eucharist on Sunday, October 13 at 10.30am, which will be followed by a Gala Lunch.

Vollers, both current and former, are invited to sing during the service and then attend the lunch, with a plus one.

After the service, all attendees can enjoy celebratory refreshments in the Cathedral.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Cathedral has commissioned Paul Trepte, who was previously the director of the Voluntary Choir, to pen a new anthem.

This new composition will debut at the service, performed by both the Voluntary Choir and the Cathedral Choir.

The Mass setting will feature Charles-Marie Widor’s setting for two choirs and two organs.

Former Vollers are welcomed to form the baritone choir, reuniting for a rehearsal on milestone day from 9.15am.

The Cathedral's assistant director of music, Nicholas Freestone, said: "We are reliant on word of mouth to let former choir members know about this event, so please do pass this onto any former Vollers you may know.

"It would be wonderful to welcome many former choir members to this special anniversary event."

Any former vollers can sign-up to take part on the Cathedral website or contact Mr Freestone directly by emailing nicholasfreestone@worcestercathedral.org.uk.

Seats for the lunch are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Former Vollers are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

The Cathedral is welcoming all to attend the service, which is unticketed with unreserved seating.

Potential attendees are advised to book as soon as possible.
