A RIVERSIDE area popular with tourists has been labelled an 'eyesore' and in desperate need of repairs.

Part of the walkway on South Quay, in Worcester, has been cordoned off with barriers since it was damaged during the flooding that affected the city earlier in 2024.

Councillor Adam Scott, who represents Cathedral ward, has been trying to get the area repaired as a priority since he was elected in May.

Cllr Scott said: "It's a complete eyesore and I've been trying to get this part of South Quay sorted since our local elections earlier this year.

"I have put a couple of reports in and spoken to a couple of county councillors through email.

"I believe it's Worcestershire County Council's responsibility to get this walkway fixed, and it was on their list of works to complete but it seems to have fallen down the order.

"There was a bit of finger-pointing between the city and county councils on this though, in terms of whose responsibility it is."

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "Following discussions with Worcester City Council, we can confirm the repair works have been scheduled into our upcoming programme of works, with work due to start shortly.

"Updates on the progress of the works will be posted on our Travel Twitter account.”

The zoned off area in question is opposite Copenhagen Street Car Park and only a stone's throw from the South Quay fountains.

Cllr Scott added: "We are proud of our riverside park and as a city we want to look after these areas.

"But this is an example of it not being looked after properly, and there's no excuse.

"South Quay is a really popular part of Worcester, and really these repairs should have been made before the summer and the school holidays.

"People are out on the waterside having an ice cream and enjoying the splash pad and fountain in the warm weather, and they're met with these barriers.

"My constituents have been saying to me, 'can you get this sorted out?', and the businesses here who depend on tourism are affected too."
