A Worcester homeless charity is teaming up with a college to provide food or monetary donations for lunches in its day centre.
Maggs Day Centre would like people to sponsor them to enable students from the Heart of Worcestershire College’s SEN department to cook weekly lunches at its Worcester day centre.
Melissa Blewitt, marketing and relations manager at the charity, said: "We are delighted to have this wonderful opportunity with the students from the SEN department.

"However, we need certain food items to allow this project to come to fruition, so we’re looking for kind people to help lighten the monetary load and help us bring this opportunity to life.
"Even a donation of £10 could help, not only to help students secure invaluable work experience but also so our service users get to enjoy a weekly homecooked lunch at least once a week alongside their bespoke support from our team.
"Those small gestures truly can transform someone’s life and give them something to look forward to.”
The charity regularly provides cooked breakfasts every morning to rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation at its open-door day centres in Worcester and Malvern.
In 2023, the Worcester day centre saw over 287 visitors, who accessed its services for food, support or its washing and showering facilities.
The initiative with the HoW College’s SEN department offers students hands-on work experience.
Amy Miller, work experience learning supervisor in the department at HOW College, said: "The hope is that we can help our students build initial skills for the working world whilst giving them insight into vulnerable lives and homelessness, especially as the Worcester day centre is next door to us.
“Additionally, as a college, we also promote sustainability and ensure that we maximise all food produce to minimise any waste so we will be incorporating this into our menu plan and making the most of all food donations.”
Specialist teams such as the Outreach team, the Intensive Transition Team, and a Harm Reduction team also provide bespoke support for Maggs' service users.
